What is HIPAA?

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, which was enacted by Congress to protect sensitive patient data.  The act contains a “Privacy Rule” and a “Security Rule,” which in turn protect the privacy, and sets standards for the security of electronic protected health information (e-PHI).

What is HITECH?

HITECH stands for the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act and was enacted as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  HITECH is a dramatic update of the HIPAA Security Rule that more clearly outlines the things that companies that work with e-PHI must be doing with that health data.

iLife uses encryption technology, which means that your data, and the information of your participants, is rendered unusable, unreadable, or indecipherable both:

1. During Transmission (this means over the network from your PC or web-enabled device (from ANY location) to our Server)
2. At Rest (this means while it is backed-up for recovery or disaster recovery)

iLife Backs-Up your Data

We make nightly backups of your data and store them at a separate location. This enables us to recover from a disaster, which is another HIPAA / HITECH recommendation.
